Description of the work done:

Practical training done in the Applied Optics Group of Professor Dainty.

The objective of my project was to investigate methods of determining the centroid of images such as occur in the Shack-Hartmann sensor in an adaptive optics system. I found a new analytical result which included the effect of asymmetries and carried out numerical simulations to verify the theory and include the effect of noise (see my report – unpublished – here).
